How to Specify a Calibration Column for a Chemical Dosing Skid

Globe United calibration column for chemical dosing systems

A calibration column specification should describe the pump duty, chemical, measurement range and connection arrangement. Ordering only by nominal capacity can leave the scale, materials or installation unsuitable for the intended check. A complete enquiry gives the supplier a clearer basis for reviewing the proposed column and its accessories.

For dosing skid projects in Egypt, prepare the specification alongside the pump data sheet and piping arrangement. This guide supports the Globe United calibration column product page and focuses on the information required before purchase.

Define what the column must measure

A drawdown check determines the pump flow from the volume taken from the column over a measured time. Describe the expected minimum, normal and maximum dosing flow and the units used in the plant records. The useful measurement range should allow a readable volume change during the intended test interval.

State the proposed measurement interval and ask the supplier to confirm the usable volume and graduation arrangement. Do not treat the overall vessel volume as the same as the volume available between the marked scale limits.

Provide the chemical and installation conditions

Identify the chemical, concentration and operating temperature. Include the wetted connections, seals and any cleaning chemicals in the compatibility review. Where the dosing chemical can release gas or create another process concern, provide that information for the equipment and installation review.

State the intended location of the column in the skid and the pressure or vacuum conditions that it can experience. Do not assume that a column installed near a pump has the same pressure rating as the pump discharge line. Its allowable conditions must be confirmed from the selected design.

Check visibility and access

Ask for a drawing showing overall dimensions, scale position, connections and support points. The technician should be able to read the scale from the intended access position. Record restrictions created by pipework, guards, cabinets or nearby equipment before approving the arrangement.

Also identify how the column will be filled, vented, isolated and drained within the approved skid design. Valve operation and chemical handling must follow the selected equipment instructions and the site operating procedure.

What should the RFQ contain?

  • Project, skid and pump tag numbers
  • Pump type and minimum, normal and maximum flow
  • Chemical name, concentration and temperature
  • Proposed measurement interval and required units
  • Required usable volume and scale information, if already specified
  • Connection sizes, types and orientation
  • Wetted material and seal requirements
  • Installation pressure or vacuum conditions
  • Mounting space and access restrictions
  • Required drawings, inspection and material documents

Compare the quoted scope

Ask bidders to identify the proposed model, usable capacity, graduation units, materials, connections and operating limits. Confirm whether supports, valves and fittings are included. If the project specification asks for particular inspection documents, request a clear statement of compliance and exceptions.

For an Egypt delivery, add the destination, document requirements and quotation deadline to the enquiry. Request a confirmed commercial proposal for those details rather than assuming local stock, a fixed delivery time or a particular approval status.

Keep the measurement record useful

The operating record should identify the pump setting, measured volume, elapsed time and relevant test conditions. Retain the equipment tag and date with the result so later checks can be compared on a consistent basis. Follow the pump and skid procedure when selecting test conditions; the column reading alone does not establish that every operating case has been verified.

Prepare the specification for review

Send the pump data sheet, chemical information and proposed piping arrangement when you contact Globe United. Review the calibration column information and the current product documents before finalising the RFQ. For a wider instrumentation package, the existing Egypt procurement checklist can help organise the enquiry.
