Injection Quill Drawing Review: What to Check Before Approval

An injection quill quotation can look complete while still leaving important installation details unresolved. Before approving the supplier drawing, check that the process connection, insertion dimensions, materials and maintenance arrangement match the actual line. A clear drawing review helps the purchaser and supplier resolve differences before fabrication.
This guide is for engineers and procurement teams reviewing an injection quill proposal. Use it alongside the approved project specification and the instructions from the supplier. Drawing approval should record what has been checked and what remains open.
Confirm the duty behind the drawing
The drawing should be traceable to a current data sheet. Check the process fluid, injected chemical and concentration, dosing range, pressure and temperature. Identify each operating case rather than combining unrelated minimum and maximum values into one range.
If the chemical or its concentration has changed during procurement, ask for the material review to be reconfirmed. A material description on an earlier quotation is not a substitute for checking the final service conditions.
Check the insertion dimension from a defined reference
Ask the supplier to show where the insertion length is measured from. The pipe outside diameter, wall thickness, branch connection, flange or thread engagement and any isolation assembly affect the installed location of the tip. Confirm these dimensions against the piping drawing and site information.
Do not approve a dimension labelled only as overall length when the project requires an installed tip location. Any proposed tip position should be reviewed for the actual flow and mixing duty. There is no single insertion dimension that can be applied to every pipeline.
Review the complete connection arrangement
- Line size, schedule and branch connection details
- Flange standard, size, facing and pressure class, or specified thread
- Gasket, fastener and seal materials where included
- Injection-side tubing or piping connection
- Flow direction, orientation marks and available installation clearance
- Quoted accessories and items supplied by others
A small difference in connection scope can change the installed dimensions. Show valves and fittings that affect the geometry even if they are supplied separately.
Distinguish fixed and retractable arrangements
A fixed quill and a retractable assembly have different maintenance provisions. Where withdrawal is required, ask for the complete isolation and retrieval arrangement to be identified. A product described as retractable does not by itself confirm that it may be removed under every operating condition.
The responsible engineering and operations teams should review the selected equipment, operating limits and procedure. This article does not provide instructions for insertion or withdrawal from a pressurised system.
Check materials and document traceability
Review the material specification for each wetted component, rather than relying on a general phrase such as stainless steel. Identify the quill, nozzle, connection and seal materials and ask the supplier to state any proposed substitutions. Confirm the inspection and material documentation required by the purchase specification.
Include the drawing number and revision in the approval record. If a comment changes the supply, request a revised drawing and confirmation of any commercial or schedule effect.
Drawing approval checklist
- Confirm the tag number and data-sheet revision.
- Match the process and chemical duty to the quotation.
- Check the dimensional reference and installed insertion length.
- Confirm connection details and installation clearance.
- Review fixed or retractable maintenance scope with operations.
- Resolve materials, accessories, tests and document exclusions.
- Close comments in a controlled drawing revision.
Preparing an enquiry for Saudi Arabia or Malaysia
Attach the process data sheet, line drawing and chemical information when you request a technical review from Globe United. Identify the project destination and required documentation. Review the injection quill product page for the selection inputs, and use the markets page to find the relevant enquiry route.
